“We are so grateful to Vectren for their help around our building. Their generosity eliminated these expensive projects from our budget, which means we can spend more resources on programs and activities for Monroe County girls,” Amy Stark, Girls Inc. Executive Director reflected on the recent Vectren Day of Action.
On November 30, a team of 11 Vectren employees took a day to give back to the community through United Way. They traveled to three different locations—two LifeDesigns group homes and Girls Inc.—to fill potholes, clear brush, remove dead trees, work on general landscaping, and repair fences to ensure safe and welcoming environments for people served by these agencies.
Tracy Smith, operations supervisor over service, led the Day of Action event. “Vectren is fitted around community and they really foster community development and volunteerism,” she explained. “We’re super excited to have this opportunity. Any chance we have to just get out and do these kind of things is great.”
Gas specialist Tye Kirk shared, “hopefully the repairs we do help everything look good. For example, this fence is kind of torn up and could potentially be a hazard. We want everyone to be safe and have a nice place to be.”
Girls Inc. says it is “so grateful to Vectren for their help around our building. Their help with several dead trees along the front of the building will keep the sidewalk safe for the girls and eliminate the risk of falling branches on our buses. They also coordinated with another company to help us with a large pothole at the end of our parking lot. Vectren's generosity eliminated these expensive projects from our budget, which means we can spend more resources on programs and activities for Monroe County girls. “
LifeDesigns maintenance supervisor, Dave Lewis, reviewed the work and echoed Girls Inc’s sentiment, saying “it was superb!”
United Way extends its sincerest thanks to Vectren and their team who helped lighten the load for member agencies and their clients. Volunteering these specialized skills and equipment is deeply valued. The repairs they performed ensure that more people can feel comfortable and get the help they need from United Way member agencies.
