Carmen Chamorro Avilés Named Community Impact Manager for United Way of South Central Indiana
April 8, 2025 - United Way of South Central Indiana is thrilled to welcome Carmen Chamorro Avilés as their new Community Impact Manager. In this role she will lead the Free Community Tax Service, the Financial Stability Alliance, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Owen County, and partnership opportunities in Brown, Monroe, and Owen counties.
Carmen brings seven years of experience in project management and civic engagement with a strong background in community development, advocacy, and coalition-building. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Maryland as a Fulbright Scholar.
Her career spans regional initiatives across Latin America, where she worked with civil society organizations and international institutions to drive social change. Most recently, as a Senior Program Associate at Freedom House in Washington DC, she managed a multi-country initiative, fostering collaboration between advocacy groups, volunteers, and partner organizations.
Reflecting on her new role, Chamorro Avilés said, "I’m excited to join the United Way team and share my passion for social impact and hands-on experience to help turn empathy into action and strengthen our community and region. Empowering communities starts with ensuring every individual, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive."
"Having someone with Carmen’s experience on our team creates opportunities to deepen our impact across the region—developing and expanding programs that connect people to possibility,” shared Randy Rogers, United Way of South Central Indiana President & CEO.
